Once an antiquarian-book specialist at Sotheby’s, nowadays Polly turns her talents to a more fickle mistress: historic tulips. She’s struck by the similarities, though: ‘I feel that my floral collection can be compared to a library of rare books that spans the past 450 years, filling the beds that I have carved out of our rich, black earth like volumes stacking up neatly along library shelves.’
