Sean O’Toole

Sean O’Toole is writer, editor and occasional curator based in Cape Town. His birth certificate ties him to Pretoria, his marriage records to Berlin and the stamps in his passport to Japan, where he lived for two years in a rural province and has frequently
returned with his bicycle. His recent books include Irma Stern: African in Europe – European in Africa (Prestel), a biography on the South African expressionist painter Irma Stern, and The Journey: New Positions on African Photography (Kehrer), an
edited volume of essays. He has published one book of fiction and is the founder of Extemporary Press, an independent publisher exploring the nexus of art and fiction.
